The Orange river, or Gordonia pegmatite belt holds a wide variety of interresting minerals but in very small quantities. This means that large scale mining enterprises are very limited and mostly not economically viable. The pegmatites contain mainly rare metal minerals like; tantalite, beryl and native bismuth. Quartz is ever present with accompanying feldspar, scroll and muscovite. Most of these pegmatite ridges are massive and don't bare crystals. The crystals that did form are rarely of outstanding quality and are mostly pale, milky white quartz crystals.
